Live Shows As a means of providing a variation in the entertainment and attracting a different type of clientele the Harrogate Intercon had many groups appearing there, the first of whom was Alan Price. On Thursday 10 th October 1970 Peter Noon & Herman's ermits appeared at the Intercon. This was a most memorable night because the band gave a fantastic performance. The management of the Intercon discovered that Peter Noon collected budgerigars. At the end of the show the, them manager John Mc and disc jockey Kingsley Allison presented Peter with a budgerigar. Following the start of Radio 1, disc jockeys became household names and personalities who the public wanted to see having heard their voices over the airways.
First Birthday To celebrate the Intercon's first birthday Emperor Rosco was invited. The Emperor brought along his road show, the like of which had not been seen in Harrogate before. what a night with plenty of Bacardi. The show, which most men looked forward to, was Pans Peoples. This group of female dancers became famous for their appearance on BBC's Top of the Pops.
Pan's People's final Top of the Pops performance was broadcast on Thursday April 2 1976. The show included Pan's People dancing to “More More More” by Andrea True Connection and “Silver Star” by The Four Seasons from which the following picture taken. Live shows continued at the Intercon with shows by Limmie and the family cookin' “you can do magic” 1973. The Peddlers performed at the Intercon. After a postponement the late Edwin Starr made his long awaited appearance at the Intercon. He performance was one of sheer excitement and energy. Miss Knaresborough Attractive Miss Linda Wilkinson (19) of 2 Mallinson Oval, Harrogate , won the “Miss Knaresborough” title at a dance held at the Intercon, Harrogate , on Monday night. The title, awarded as part of Saturday's Knaresborough Bed Race celebrations, was accompanied by a £30 cash prize. Linda is a secretarial student at the Harrogate Further Education. Her two attendants will be 16 year-old schoolgirl, Miss Jacqueline Ward, of 7 Tentergate Gardens, Knaresborough, and Miss Eunice Lamton, a shop assistant, who lives in Eaton terrace, Harrogate. It was the first time any of the girls had entered a beauty competition. Each of the attendants also receive £10 each prize. Miss Knaresborough and her attendants will arrive at the bed race in a 1929 Bently. One of Linda's duties will be to assist the chairman of Knaresborough Urban Council, Councillor. W.R. Macintyre, to judge the best decorated bed. |
